Cutting back on sugar in the diet is a challenge for many, and It can be confusing how to get started...
Why avoid sugars?...Added sugars have been linked to obesity, diabetes, elevated lipids, fatty liver, cancers, heart disease...
A 1st step is to try to minimize "added" sugars meaning the sugars, or sweeteners We add (sugar, brown sugar, honey, syrups, etc) and those that the manufacturers add (sugar, dextrose, cane sugar, high fructose corn syrup, rice syrup, etc)…
Look for products less than 5 grams sugar per serving...ugar, dextrose, cane sugar, high fructose corn syrup, rice syrup, etc)…
Stick to natural sugars from fruit and dairy sources like milk or yogurt ( plain yogurt has no added sugars).
Avoid high fructose corn syrup which is a highly processed form of added sugars found in many products...even breads can include it!
Stick to unsweetened beverages like water, mineral water, seltzers, and unsweetened teas or coffee!
Stick to dark chocolate- 70% or higher in cacao. Dark chocolate has less sugar and more antioxidants!
As you move away from sugars in the diet...your body will crave them less!
